It is no secret that spas and hot tubs are good for the body. Once your foot hits the water, your body begins to relax. There is something enticing about the luxuriant warm water that every one craves. Spas and hot tubs are a great way to warm up on a cold night and soothe your old and tired bones. Even on a warm day, a spa is a great way to cool down. Spas enable your body to relax after a long and exhausting day and soothe sore and tired muscles. Clearly, adding a spa to your home will increase your quality of life.

 

If you are considering a new spa or hot tub, or upgrading the one you have give us a call before you purchase it. Many people make the mistake of purchasing the spa and then worrying about where to put it and where to plug it in. This is a big mistake!

There are many locations and considerations that you should consider when installing your new spa. For example, the closer the spa it to your home, the most you will use it. Many people install spas on an existing patio or deck. Most decks are not designed to withstand the weight of a filled hot hub and its occupants.

The average hot tub, filled with water weighs more than 5,000 pounds. The best place for a hot tub is on a concrete pad. The average concrete pad is 3 ½ inches thick and contains reinforcement wire.

 

Hot tubs do not run on regular 120v circuit. There is much more than just plugging the spa in even if you have the correct outlet to do so.  The NEC requires that a disconnect switch be within visible distance from the pump, but at least 5 feet away from the edge of the tub. All electrical circuits need to be protected by a GFCI electrical circuit breaker.
